Scaling the highest mountain of them all is 17-year old Scott McI, an Explorer Scout from Chapelhall Explorer Scout Unit who achieved the highest award in Scouting – the Queen’s Scout award. Scott’s journey began when he was 6 when his mum convinced him to join the beavers. Achieving the Queen’s Scout Award has been a goal of Scott’s for many years. Driven by his passion for anything adventurous, this award is Scott’s most momentous achievement and his drive for adventure is far from over. Explorer Scout Leader Lorna McIlwraith has said: “I am very proud of Scott’s commitment to Scouting over the years, his enthusiasm and enjoyment for all the activities he has been involved in. Scott sets a great example to all other Scouts.”District Commissioner of Calder District Scouts, Bill Craig, who awarded Scott with the award, has also expressed his delight with the enthusiasm for adventure that Scott has shown in his time with the Scouts. For those that are interested in following in Scott’s footsteps, Chapelhall Explorer Scout Unit runs on a Monday evening between 7pm and 9pm in Mount Pleasant Community Centre in Chapelhall, Airdrie.
