New Hall, New Memories – 3rd Shotts Celebrate Opening Of New Hall

Exactly four years later, 3rd Shotts Scout Group open their new Scout Hall at the same location as the hall that once lay in pieces after a devastating fire was started by local arsonists. The local community showed fantastic support by filling the new hall to watch the cutting of the ribbon to open their new hall. Designed by WC Blair Associates, the new hall is a spacious, environmentally friendly building with close to zero carbon emissions. The building is designed with Scouting at heart.

100 years of Cub Scouts, 30 years of Beaver Scouts, and Silver Acorn Presentations at 6th Motherwell

Scouting in Calder takes many shapes for our youth members, and adult volunteers. This is shown by one group through their drive for adventure and passion for Scouting is prominent throughout Calder District – 6th Motherwell Scout Group.

Lead by Sandra Caddow and her team of dedicated volunteers, they hosted a Cubs 100 party at South Dalziel Historical Building in Motherwell aiming to showcase all that their Cubs can offer. This event also hosted the presentation of the Silver Acorn award, one of the highest awards for adults in The Scout Association, to Lesley McManus and Joe McManus.

A trip to the field of dreams

Blair Atholl Jamborette brings fun and excitement to the summer of over 1500 scouts and explorer scouts every two years. From Calder Scouts, there are 7 Explorer Scouts participating in the 12 days that the event runs at Blair Castle, in the scenic Perthshire countryside.

This years Jamborette is midway through with the Jamborette ending on Saturday bringing the close to many an adventure with scouts and explorers a like anticipating the next Blair Atholl experience in two years.

Explorer Scouts from Calder district have been placed throughout the 4 subcamps – Stewart, Murray, McLean, and Robertson each paired with a patrol from one of 19 different countries which include Iceland, Spain, Norway, and Russia.

Queen’s Scout Award goes to Chapelhall Explorer

Adventure lies in the heart of Scouting and everything we achieve, be it running, climbing, abseiling or canoeing. Scaling the highest mountain of them all is 17-year old Scott McI, an Explorer Scout from Chapelhall Explorer Scout Unit who achieved the highest award in Scouting – the Queen’s Scout award.

Scott’s journey began when he was 6 when his mum convinced him to join the beavers. Achieving the Queen’s Scout Award has been a goal of Scott’s for many years. Driven by his passion for anything adventurous, this award is Scott’s

Introducing the next generation of Adult Leaders

Over two weekends in November and March there were 4 adult volunteers at the Clyde Regional Sectional Training course to complete all the necessary learning to gain the much sought after wood badge to signify the completion of their adult training in their roles as Sectional and Assistant Sectional leaders within Calder District.

It was a 4 day intensive course in order to complete all the mandatory modules specified by The Scout Association

Calder District has a fantastic number of Scouts who fulfill their potential every year, and Clyde Region organise their Presentation of Awards to celebrate these fantastic achievements of our young people.
